Omens

by Loren Johnson

This song was an experiment - it’s still not quite where I want to be as a songwriter and performer, but it was an incredible learning experience from start to finish.

I wrote this in the Summer of 2017, when I was starting my last semester of University, working 3 jobs, helping run a non-profit, playing gigs every weekend, saying yes to everything, and just overall running myself into the ground.

2017 really drove home the lesson “just because you’re busy, doesn’t mean you’re being effective”. I needed balance, I needed a change.

I brought this song to two good friends of mine, Jackson Swan and Devon Matthews - who’s work you can see here. They heard the acoustic version, listened to my vision, and ran with it.

Fast forward a few months and I have a fresh new song and a video to match. It was amazing to collaborate with such good friends, and we learned so much about sound, film, and art in the process.

I consider this song a stepping stone to the sound I’m working with for my full-length album, and I’m so excited about the journey.
